Tips on how to do EFT by yourself

Classic EFT Procedure
There are two EFT procedures that are mainly used during the EFT treatment, the Classic Procedure and a Simplified Shortcut Version.
- Identify the problem or issue. Think about a situation when the problem is very intense. Experience how you feel about the problem or issue. For instance, say you have a fear of public speaking. Envision a situation where you give a talk and
- Rate the intensity. Ask yourself how intense the issue or problem is right now. Rate it 0-10. (10 = high intensity) You can muscle test if you know how, or just use your intuition.
- Next formulate your “set up sentence,” using the basic format: “Even though (state problem/issue), I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.” Examples:
- Even though I get sweaty palms and nausea when I give a speech, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.
- Even though I feel judged by the audience and belief they will laugh at me, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.
- Even though I get paralyzed by the thought of giving a speech, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.
- Then tap the “Karate chop” point 7 to 10 times with the four fingers of your dominant hand (see schematic below) while speaking the set up sentence out loud.
- Repeat the set up sentence out loud 3 times while tapping the Karate chop point.
- Tap on each of the following points 7 to 10 times with the index and middle finger of your dominant hand while saying a reminder phrase, e.g. “afraid of public speaking” or “feeling paralyzed when giving a speech”:
- a) Eyebrow
- b) Side of eye
- c) Under eye
- d) Under nose
- e) Chin
- f) Collarbone
- g) Under arm
- h) Under breast
- i) Karate chop
- j) Outside of thumb
- k) Outside of index finger
- l) Top of middle finger
- m) Outside of little finger
- n) On top of your hand (gamut point) While you continuously tap the gamut point: close your eyes, open your eyes, look down to the right, look down to the left, turn your eyes clockwise then anticlockwise, hum a brief melody, count from 1 to 5, hum a brief melody. (This gamut series is great for stress release and engages both sides of the brain).
- o) Repeat tapping series (a through n) one more time.
- Rate the problem again. Think about the problem (Fear of Public Speaking) and rate your intensity on a scale 0 to 10 (or muscle test.)
- Decide if the result is good enough or if it needs more work. It is best to bring the result, e.g. anxiety, to zero on the scale. This can be done immediately or at a later time.
- If you still have a rating above zero, look for other aspects or angles. These could be other feelings (anxiety, shyness, intimidation) or thoughts (I am not funny enough, smart enough, I am not a great speaker) about the problem, or it could be physical reactions, e.g. a knot in your stomach, dry mouth, shaking, etc.
- Then create a new set up sentence: “Even though I get a knot in my stomach and dry mouth when I think about public speaking, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self anyway.“
- Repeat the EFT Sequence starting with the Karate chop and go through the whole sequence described above.
- Put it to the test. The best way to determine the success of the EFT treatment is to test the issue. In case of fear of public speaking, think about volunteering for a public presentation. How do you feel now about it?
And then the ultimate test: give a presentation.

Simplified Version of the Classic EFT Procedure
In most cases this shorter EFT procedure is sufficient to release the negative emotions you are facing. If you get stuck and don’t feel relief, try the Classic EFT Procedure.
- Identify the problem or issue. Think about a situation when the problem is very intense. Experience how you feel about the problem or issue. For instance, you want to attract financial abundance. Say I easily and consistently earn one million dollar a year. Listen for the negative thoughts that come up.
- Rate the intensity. Ask yourself how intense the issue or problem is right now. Rate it 0-10. (10 = high intensity) You can muscle test if you know how, or just use your intuition.
- Next formulate your “set up sentence,” using the basic format: “Even though (state problem/issue), I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.” Examples:
- Even though I belief that I don’t deserve a lot of money, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.
- Even though I am not educated enough to make one million dollar a year, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.
- Even though I feel greedy wanting this much money, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self.
- Then tap the “Karate chop” point 7 to 10 times with the four fingers of your dominant hand (see schematic below) while speaking the set up sentence out loud.
- Repeat the set up sentence out loud 3 times while tapping the Karate chop point.
- Tap on each of the following points 7 to 10 times with the index and middle finger of your dominant hand while saying a reminder phrase, e.g. “not enough educated to make a million” or “greedy wanting lots of money”:
- a) Top of Head
- b) Eyebrow
- c) Side of eye
- d) Under eye
- e) Under nose
- f) Chin
- g) Collarbone
- h) Under arm
- i) Under breast
- j) Inside Wrist
- k) Karate chop
- l) Repeat tapping series (a through k) one more time.
- Rate the problem again. Think about the problem (Not earning enough money) and rate your intensity on a scale 0 to 10 (or muscle test.)
- Decide if the result is good enough or if it needs more work. It is best to bring the result, e.g. anxiety, to zero on the scale. This can be done immediately or at a later time.
- If you still have a rating above zero, look for other aspects or angles. These could be other feelings (hopeless, desperate, frustrated) or thoughts (wealthy people are arrogant, money is dirty, I don’t want to work that hard) about the problem, or it could be physical reactions, etc.
- Then create a new set up sentence: “Even though I belief that money is dirty and rich people are selfish, I deeply and profoundly accept and love my self anyway.“
- Repeat the EFT Sequence starting with the Karate chop and go through the whole sequence described above.
- Put it to the test. The best way to determine the success of the EFT treatment is to test the issue. In case of financial abundance, repeat the sentence I easily and consistently earn one million dollar a year. How do you feel now about it?
And then the ultimate test: observe the ease with which the money appears.

Tips on making EFT more effective
- Drink water. Water conducts electricity (energy). Our physical body consists of 70-80% water and is therefore a great system to move energy. For EFT to work well you must be well hydrated. Drink water before, during and after your EFT session. It will help release energy and flush out toxins.
- Be specific. Be as specific as possible when identifying the problem and preparing the set up phrase. For example if you have low self esteem, using a set up phrase such as "Even though I have low self esteem I deeply and profoundly love myself.” will not unlock and release the emotions that cause your low self-esteem. Look for specific situations when your self-esteem is low. For example talking to strangers, speaking up, asking for higher salary. Then build a specific set up sentence: “Even though I feel very shy talking to strangers, I deeply and profoundly love myself anyway.” “Even though I am afraid to speak up in front of my boss, I love and forgive myself.” “Even though I don’t dare to ask my new client for more money, I deeply and profoundly accept myself.
